I love those old movies and Laura is way toward the top of my list.

My favorite of that era? Probably The Third Man (although there's nothing romantic about it).

Spamboy

All the President's Men -- I could watch that over, and over, and over. And by "could" I mean "have" and "will".

Sandy

My most favorite rainy day movie is "The Goonies". Has been for years. There is just something about it that relaxes me. I know all of the scenes and the lines, so I don't even technically have to watch...but I do.

Loving Annie

Good Tuesday morning Wordgirl !

My rainy day movie has to be Gone With The Wind...
I always cry when Melanie dies, and I've seen it a dozen times already, and read the book even more times than that.

Nils

I'm totally a chick flick guy. "Sleepless in Seattle", "When Harry Met Sally", "The American President", "You've Got Mail" ... any romantic comedy will do (although those are my favourites). Put them on and let the rain pour down. It's sunny in my head.

Joni

My rainy day movie is High Fidelity. The scene in the rain after her dad dies and Dylan is playing in the background kills me every time. Love it.

shelley

Chick flicks for me, too: Pride & Prejudice (the 4+ hour BBC version) is number one, then You've Got Mail, Say Anything ("I gave her my heart; she gave me a pen"), An Affair to Remember (the Deborah Kerr version), and Amelie.

V-Grrrl

I love Bridget Jones Diary--and I adore Colin Firth.

The Godfather is my favorite movie of all time. I have also been known to do a De Niro day and watch Casino, Ronin, Goodfellas and Taxi Driver a few times.

As for "old" movies I really love Casablanca along with many other Bogart movies. And I'm man enough to admit that I enjoyed Sabrina with Bogie and Audrey Hepburn. Audrey was just soooooo adorable.

Oh and speaking of Audrey, Breakfast at Tiffany's was also great. And don't forget Roman Holiday.

Oh and speaking of Gregory Peck (Roman Holiday), To Kill a Mockingbird is is a very, very close second to The Godfather in terms of my favorite movie of all time. And it IS my favorite book.

I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

Cary Grant-a-holic

Any Jane Austen movie, or anything with Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. You totally sold me on Laura.

(BTW, I've changed my blog to permit anonymous posts. Your exile is over! I hope)

amanda

I forget how divine it is to read truly great writing. You really are something else.

Becca

I'm more of a bake cookies and read a book kind of girl on rainy days. But only because going to the video store would mean going out into the rain. :)

CircusKelli

Ah, I long to have "rainy days"... I'd pick a chick flick, too. Lakehouse, Always, Sleepless in Seattle... any of those would do nicely.

Sueb0b

My sister was named after the theme song of that movie.

Nance

"Girl with a Pearl Earring". Every frame is a Vermeer painting. So quiet, so lovely, and so romantically understated.

mamatulip

American Beauty is a movie I'll always curl up and watch, and so is Erin Brockovitch.

Ortizzle

Not wishing to be redundant, my favorite modern romantic movies include "When Harry met Sally" and "The American President."

For more old-timey, I like Bette Davis in "Now, Voyager."

For a great laugh, I also watch "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown."

kim

Bringing Up Baby. I think Nils is my husband posting under and alias.
