Breakfast at the Apathy Lounge: A Brief Glimpse
Click for a larger view...our kitchen is one of the best rooms in the house.
No shoes? No shirts? No problem! When everyone's home for the weekend and the oldest is making pancakes, no one is turned away. However, conversations like the following are to be expected:
Oldest Son: "I'll go ahead and eat these three, because I sort of screwed them up."
Middle Son: "I'm okay with a screwed up pancake."
*pause*
"Will they give me diarrhea if I eat them?"
Oldest: "No, it's not that kind of screwed up."
Middle Son: "Then give them to me."
The two older ones were only here for 48 hours, but they helped the youngest go through two gallons of milk during their stay. I'm off to buy a cow and get it settled in the backyard before their month-long stay at Christmas!
How was your weekend?

When I met my farmer/rancher husband, I told him I would do any ag related jobs except milk cows and raise chickens. When the boys were born, he really tried to get me budge on that. I had hoped the cost of feeding them would lessen, but I can see from these pics that it won't.
Also, I like the new pic of you.

"Will they give me diarrhea if I eat them?"
Hahahahahaha!
We already go through two gallons of milk a week. I shudder to think of what our future holds. Too bad our HOA is so firm on their no-livestock policy.

That is an excellent question to ask of a lot of foods--but of pancakes? Funny.
Oh the dairy. I hear you. We've got a gallon a day habit nearly. Yikes!

Maybe just a trip to Denny's would have done less damage to the kitchen. ;-)

I DO NOT have enough room in my kitchen for that big. My kids are gonna have to put the breaks on growth, 'cause geometrically speaking, it's just not going to work.

Look at those boys! Aren't they sweet?

Great kitchen--I'm a white cabinets fan myself.
We're amazed at how little food we're going through without the 18 year old.

Well, I applaud him for getting some detail on the screwed-upedness of the pancake. Because if he was eating MY cooking, it probably WOULD give him diarrhea.

I had to call my wife over to look at that pic. We laughed. It was kind of a dear-god-they're-just-going-to-keep-getting-bigger laugh. Nervous with a hint of terror.

My stepson was 6 when we first met, and now he's 19 and HUGE, and it all happened SO FAST, yikkes!!
You're right - GREAT kitchen! I LOVE those tiles; did you do that yourself?!

You gotta watch out for the pancakes with disclaimers. ;)

As for me, I'm looking forward to this weekend when I will drive 10 hours to bring my daughter home for 2 days. The house just isn't the same without her.

I LOVE the conversation. Love it.
And? I also love your kitchen, every last bit of it - the island, cupboards, countertops, tiled border, glass-fronted cupboards, layout - LOVE IT. Damn.

Your kitchen is the greatest - it's my dream kitchen.
I wonder if that question was one T learned to ask from experience? :)

I love the conversation in your kitchen and the kitchen, too.

I luv those colorful tiles! And as for our weekend? Pancakes here, too.
Glad you had all your boys home for the weekend. Makes the nest emptying a little easier to take.

Food and milk consumption dropped considerably when my oldest headed off. It still shocks me how he can clean out a fridge during short visits.
That's a great-looking kitchen!

I love your kitchen. I want a house full of teenage boys. I had a nice weekend, sun and sleep and dinner with a friend.

I am majorly, completely, desperately, world-without-end in love with your kitchen. It looks to be twice as big as mine and it's so gorgeous. And the sight of 3 teenage boys cooking breakfast just warms my heart.
We go through two gallons of milk a week now, and the Queen doesn't even drink it.
After 3 solid weekends of high productivity, we went almost completely slacker this weekend. Mostly vaccuuming the never-ending fleas and spraying yet another can of flea killer around. The Mountain Man did work on DeBoy's rocking chair, and I started some packing for the beach.

I have an only daughter, no sons...never wanted any really, until I saw this picture. Gosh, the idea of my house full of men cooking and hanging out and eating me out of house and home, that sounds kinda nice.

WOW, I found you through "milk breath and margaritas" and I feel like you're my long lost sister. I just dropped off my second son to join his brother at the same university. They are freshman and senior and yes I hope he calls big brother before he calls me. Paybacks are a bitch.
My fridge has 2 gallons of milk going bad because I don't know how to shop for a family of 3. My youngest son is 12. I once wished for girls but now love the boy vibe. My oldest worked as short order cook at a country club. He never came home hungry and now he offers to help in the kitchen. Sons who cook really rock!
The boys know about the blog but only the youngest has ever seen it - once - when he was pictured. Do your kids check in on yours?
I got called to sub in 3rd grade on the first day of school last week. Knee length black shorts, green tee shirt, white short sleeved crop sweater and black patent flip flops from Ann Taylor Loft were comfy but tailored.
My husband is a Republican; I'm a D. I had to drop a friend who cluelessly spouted on about Fox News, etc. badmouthing D's and never bothering to wonder what my views were.
Glad I found you.

Well, at least if they didn't leave you any food, the kitchen is still gorgeous. Perhaps you should buy two cows.
